I thought I was doing pretty well. I made my own hand sanitizer before our president even addressed the nation for the first time. My husband and I avoided contact for a week before he moved out to care for his mother, who is a primary target for Covid-19, having reduced lung function due to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. We shopped for essentials, and tried not to overdo it. I hand sanitized and washed hands multiple times a day. I continued to go to work in line with policy and observing hygiene protocols. Then I chatted to a friend.

He has been self-isolating too. He had made an online grocery order and had it delivered. He had avoided contact with the courier and sanitized after the delivery. He had sanitized all items delivered before putting them away. I realized that I hadn’t actually been doing that well after all.

I then remembered listening to the audio book of The Four Disciplines of Execution by Chris McChesney, Sean Covey and Jim Huling. While I am no expert at the Four disciplines, I remembered the principle of Lead measures and Lag measure in the execution of any goal.

I realized that a many of us are focused on the lag measures (the statistics that are spread on every news channel and social media network) and while we are given lead measures by governments who are scrambling to implement the advice of the World Health Organization while trying to save their countries’ economies, we aren’t even sure how well we as individuals are doing in the fight to slow the spread of the virus.

I figured that we need a scorecard to measure ourselves, to quantify how we are performing on a day to day basis. This scorecard is another concept from The Four Disciplines of Execution where they talk about creating a compelling scoreboard.

Since there is a limitation on testing available in different countries and often testing is done once symptoms show, we must assume that any point of contact is an opportunity for the virus to spread. Our aim must be to minimize points of contact. So we score ourselves according to how many points of contact we expose ourselves to on a daily basis and how long we can maintain below a certain threshold (ideally zero, but practically probably somewhere low but positive none the less). I have come up with the table of scoring through extremely rough estimates. Anyone who decides to use this can adjust it accordingly as it’s a tool for you to use to evaluate yourself. This also applies to family units or groups of people who isolate together. Each person who accumulates points affects the score of the whole group since the whole group will be affected.

Start each day at Zero.
Full Quarantine = 0 (Absolutely zero external contact)
Receive a delivery = +10
Sanitize each item delivered = -5
Leave the house = +10
Every person whose 2 meter space you enter = +1
Go to work = 50 + number of people who also attended work.
Sanitize work space = -25
Visit a hospital = +400
Go to a Pharmacy = +300
Go to Gym = +300
Go to a store = +200 (Adjust for how large the store is/how well they are sanitizing)
Sanitize on entering the store = -10
Sanitize when leaving the store = -20
Sanitize when getting home = -5
Sanitize each item purchased when getting home= -10
Wipe down surfaces at home = - 10
Every time you touch something that someone else has touched = +2
Sanitize immediately after touching it = -1
Cough/Sneeze without cover/on hand = +20
Cough/Sneeze into shoulder/elbow = +10
Cough/Sneeze into face mask = +5
I’m sure many people think they are doing their bit in this fight, as I did, and are simply not aware of the extent to which we need to be going. I hope this tool will help.Guy du Sautoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05985987578483319553noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1800752213173400811.post-31603602907990574712020-03-20T09:13:00.000+02:002020-03-20T09:13:02.731+02:00How to beat Covid-19 by acting as a united community and being an example to the world #StrongerTogether.

In this time of uncertainty, the concept of looking after one’s own perceived needs at the expense of others is acutely highlighted. The world is in suspense with regulations relating to curbing the spread of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) resulting in widespread panic shopping and vendors taking advantage of their ability to provide perceived essentials at exorbitantly escalated prices.

I draw the comparison of lanes merging on a highway with congested traffic. Most drivers adhere to the rules by merging at the designated point and remaining in the demarcated lane. A few individuals use the emergency lane to pass those waiting and force their way into the traffic flow as close as possible to the point of congestion. Where the lanes merge, most drivers allow space for the other traffic to merge, while a few drivers close the gap to ensure that no-one fits in between them and the car ahead.

What the drivers who attempt to bypass the traffic or stop others from merging in do not realize, is that their very actions are making the situation as a whole worse. By by-passing the stoppage and fitting in close to the front, it forces other vehicles to have to stop and wait longer to get through the congestion point, thus worsening the congestion, and by not allowing an orderly merge, the traffic attempting to merge must stop and be held up to wait for another gap later on.

I use this example to highlight a situation that is common in most spheres of life. If we act purely in our own interests, at the expense of others, society as a whole suffers and we end up worse off. If we act together in a common interest, and focus our efforts on uplifting others, society as a whole benefits and we all end up better off.

The Coronavirus Pandemic provides and acute example of this principle. As an over simplified example:

The entire economy is under strain, yet greedy vendors appeal to the sense of panic and escalate hand sanitizer prices to make a quick buck. Those that can’t afford the high prices don’t sanitize and are more susceptible to the virus. The rate of infection increases unnecessarily further increasing the strain on the economy and more businesses close, more people can’t afford to sanitize and the cycle continues. Eventually the vendor contracts the virus because too many people who have been exposed visited his store. The store has to close, the staff lose their jobs and family members with compromised immune systems succumb to the disease. Everybody loses.

Equally, if prices are controlled and consumers panic buy all available stock, it still leaves other people without the resources to prevent the spread of the virus, again increasing the rate of infection so that in the end, everybody loses.

We need to work very carefully together to fight this pandemic. We must take personal responsibility for ensuring that we avoid contracting and spreading the virus and assist others in ensuring that they are able to do the same.

When provisioning for potential isolation, buy enough for yourself and your family, avoid overstocking or clearing out the shelves. If you buy more than you need, you are creating the problem you are attempting to prepare for.

As with all situations in life, opportunities present themselves. The challenge is to respond to the opportunity in a way that benefits the most people, rather than in a way that benefits a few people at the expense of others.

As a country, if we can limit the negative effect of this pandemic by minimizing potential exposure and opportunities for transmission, we can provide guidance and assistance to other countries on how to best manage and mitigate the risks. In order to do this, we must make optimum use of our resources and be as proactive as possible. We could still show the world that we are leaders if we as individuals work together towards the common goal of overcoming this Pandemic. As we showed in the Rugby World Cup we are #StrongerTogether

Its been a while since my last post on consistency... I guess I didn't really buy into that one.

I have been feeling more inspired lately and I can attribute this feeling to having started reading again. More specifically, I'm reading Robin Sharma's book, The 5AM Club.

What I am really enjoying is the way he repetitively emphasises the idea that any of us can be great and inspiring people and achieve amazing feats by following a simple procedure. Whether or not the procedure that is prescribed is specifically relevant to each individual on the planet or not, there are some great insights on building new productive habits to replace old unproductive ones, along with anecdotes about embracing our individuality to achieve our incredible potential.

If not anything else, the book has brought me back to this blog, and I intend to post more regularly with a new aim:

To share my thoughts on ideas and concepts South Africa as a Country needs to embrace to achieve its incredible potential. Some ideas are practical steps specific to our problems as they arise and some are more general ideas that I believe are universally applicable.

I look forward to sharing my thoughts and ideas and hearing yours for it is through open minded productive debate that we expand our minds and grow, not only our knowledge, but our collective Wisdom.Guy du Sautoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05985987578483319553noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1800752213173400811.post-74186316376220902352018-07-03T13:54:00.000+02:002018-07-04T08:32:13.314+02:00The first law of Blogging... be ConsistentI'm Back...

It has been a long absence and I finally decided that I need to continue what I started, and what better to blog about than one of the most basic principles of success at ANYTHING...

CONSISTENCY

Over the nearly four years that have passed since my last post, I have had different levels of success with the many areas of my life that I have applied myself to, but the trend I have identified is that the most successful areas are ones that I applied myself to consistently.

It is easy to acknowledge this kind of statement and I almost feel people reading this, gently nodding their heads and agreeing with me. Think of your biggest goals that you have had some success with and you will realise that you applied yourself to them consistently over a period of time.

I find it frustrating that it seems like such a simple formula... Apply myself consistently over a period of time and I will achieve what I set out to do... And yet there are so many other things that seem to have fallen by the wayside. Sean Covey and Chris McChesney refer to "The Whirlwind" in their book, The 4 Disciplines of Execution. I understand "the whirlwind" to be that stuff of everyday life that we are so busy with that we can't find time to get to our goals...
<strike></strike>
So what makes the difference?

John Demartini's teaching relates your tendency to apply yourself consistently to a goal to how that goal fulfils your highest values. Which is why I included ADD VALUE as one of my Seven Steps to Success. Relate your goals to your highest values and you will find yourself spending more time on them naturally.

What remains is to KEEP spending that time on them... Consistently. Elements of all of My Seven Steps to Success will lead to consistency in following your goals. Creating Accountability is a powerful way to ensure consistency. Whether you hire a life coach, or ask a friend for or associate to check in with them on a regular basis as an accountability partner, the process of sharing the goal with another person and giving feedback on progress is incredibly powerful in creating consistency and ultimately succeeding.

Looking forward to connecting with you all again... next time sooner, and more CONSISTENTLY.Guy du Sautoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05985987578483319553noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1800752213173400811.post-57784449385284648272014-12-05T10:59:00.002+02:002014-12-05T10:59:52.879+02:00Feedback on the goal...On 1 October 2014 I set a goal to accumulate 2 Million Rand in 2 months. The deadline was 30 November which was 3 days ago. I said I would hold myself accountable to the readers of this page, so here is the feedback as promised.

My intention was to set up a blog and generate income through advertising and online marketing. My strategy was provide value and inspiration to my readers and thus increase the traffic to this blog. I then signed up for various advertising and affiliate programmes and placed adverts on the blog.

In terms of results, I have learned a lot about blogging and how to increase views. I have found out more about what statistics are more and less relevant. I have set some small goals along the way, like getting 100 views in a day, which I achieved twice. I have had over 2000 views on this blog in just over 2 months, which I think is pretty good, but not earth shattering. I have started getting shares and learned how to set up a share bar like to one at the bottom of this post. Feel free to use it if you feel there's value.

As far as generating income is concerned, I joined a number of affiliate programmes and if you follow any of the links on any of my posts, you will be redirected to a site that is referenced to my affiliate programme. If you ten buy something there, I will earn a small commission.

I have also placed adverts on my blog for which I got paid per click. I was fairly convinced that the income would come streaming in.....

But it didn't... so now what?

I missed the goal of 2 Million Rand in 2 months.... yet this blog is about turning your dreams into reality. I believe I have made a positive difference in at least a few people's lives and this is a fulfilment of one of my dreams.

As for the 2 Million Rand... I'm going to keep at it. One of the most common principles I have read and heard about in personal development books, audio programmes and seminars is persistence. Now is the time to look at what I've done, figure out what I've done well and do more of it, and look at what I could have done differently and make that change.

I am definitely more valuable to myself for having gone through this process and I commit to sharing my continuous growth and improvement with you. I would love to hear your stories.

If you have been inspired in any way, it's time to share...Guy du Sautoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05985987578483319553noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1800752213173400811.post-87350176730835200432014-11-28T13:48:00.001+02:002014-11-28T13:48:12.619+02:00What do you do if you have a 3 Million Rand idea that you want to sell to Google?I have done a little bit of research on this topic and I haven't come up with an answer yet.

There seem to be a lot of developers out there who claim that getting a large company to buy your idea has similar odds to winning the lottery. I say that if you want to win the lottery, the first step is having a ticket. So if I want to sell my idea to Google, I have to at least put it out there.

It seems as if Google have purposefully kept their contact details as private as possible because so many people out there believe they have the next big thing. If they advertised, they would be inundated with calls and emails and their servers would constantly be full, so how do they find out about new ideas. They would be silly to ignore the potential of the world of knowledge at their finger tips. What they do have is access to what everyone searches for and the sites that they visit. So by now I guess they know I have something I want them to consider.

The next question is how do I get the idea across to them without giving away the idea completely. This is the problem with an idea, its just that until someone does something with it. There are also probably hundreds if not thousands of other people who have come up with similar ideas. What makes my idea better than theirs? I have looked a little into patenting and it seems as if its not really worth the money that would have to be spent on it to ensure that it is no-one else could reproduce it with just a few small changes.

I guess the guys at Google have to risk the fact that most ideas will already have been developed in some way or another... but what if my idea is in fact that one that is unique, or at least there is a feature that gives it enough of an advantage over whatever else is out there that could make it the next big thing. What if my idea could make the difference that would take Google+ and make it surpass any other social networking platform available?

The only way they could ever find out would be to find some or other post like this and read into the belief of its writer and contact him to ask about it, set up a meeting, get the details and enter into an agreement with him...

Am I living in a dream world?????

Lets see.

Guy du Sautoyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05985987578483319553noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1800752213173400811.post-59304684642874546552014-11-21T10:04:00.001+02:002014-11-21T10:04:36.888+02:00R1 999 999.98 in 10 days... This challenge is getting real.As you will see, I have started generating income from my site. I'm a bit behind schedule, yet super excited about it.

Throughout this process, I have been adamant that it's not about the money, and that it's all about adding value and making a difference. One of the points of setting a money goal was to prove that the process works and provide inspiration to anyone who wants to follow My 7 Steps to Success. So I've had to up the ante a bit and start asking some more hardcore questions.

So the questions I have started asking are: "What do I have that is worth 2 Million Rand?" and "How do I get someone to agree that it's worth that and pay me for it?"

That one idea that came to mind was for a social network type application/website. (Details not included ;) I believe the idea is worth more than the 2 Million I'm looking for in the long run, and I could develop it myself or find developers that would take on the project for me. I would prefer to sell the idea, contract for a royalty and let the guys who have the resources do what they do best and make it awesome.

I would love to hear from some more experienced online entrepreneurs to find out the best way to approach this. Mail me at guy@dreams2reality.co.za.

What to do when you're feeling stuck...

So you've set a bold goal, developed a plan, taken action and things are starting to move along quite nicely. You have accessed your creativity and resourcefulness and ideas were flowing, now you need more inspiration and it just doesn't seem to be coming. You made some plans and they didn't exactly work out the way you expected... what now?

What Question do I need to ask myself now?

I find that the best thing to do when I start to feel stuck is pay attention to what question I need to ask? What is the answer I'm looking for at the moment?

In Life and Executive Coaching, one of the more scary situations that arises is where the client feels stuck and the coach has run out of questions to ask? Sometimes the best way to deal with this is to simply let the client come up with the question by asking "What question do you need the answer to right now?" It can be quite surreal when the client responds with the question, the coach then asks the question and the client has a breakthrough by answering it.

The situation above doesn't only have to happen in a coaching scenario, it can be self manged. If you are feeling stuck or without direction, ask yourself the question "What question am I looking for the answer to right now?" and then ask yourself that question. Putting the question out there activates your subconscious mind to find an answer because the human subconscious really doesn't like unanswered questions.

Napoleon Hill, in Think and Grow Rich, relates a story about Henry Ford's response to a question put to him while he was in the witness stand in a libel suit against a newspaper that had referred to him as ignorant. The lawyer had been badgering Ford with general knowledge questions in order to prove his ignorance. Ford eventually retorted that he had a row of buttons on his desk that when pushed, would summon to his office the person with the answer to any question that he might need the answer to. Henry Ford, despite his shortage of formal education, had realized the power of getting answers to questions and set up a system for getting answer to them. These days, finding answers is a lot easier, yet the challenge is to identify which answer is the right one.

Developing the skill of asking questions

Dan Rothstein and Luz Santana identified a potential shortcoming in generally accepted education processes relating to the skill of asking the right questions. In school, there is often a belief that the teachers are there to give the students the answers to questions that they will be asked in examinations. In their book Make Just One Change: Teach Students to Ask Their Own Questions
, They suggest that a change in emphasis to asking students to come up with question would both build this critical skill and stimulate a much more participative learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Questions as a Guide to Decision Making

In her book, The Right Questions: Ten Essential Questions To Guide You To An Extraordinary Life, Debbie Ford puts forward that where we are at any moment in our lives is a result of the choices we have made along the way. She discusses the following ten questions that can be asked relating to any choice we are faced with in our lives.

1. Will this choice propel me toward an inspiring future or will it keep me stuck in the past?
2. Will this choice bring me long term fulfillment or will it bring me short term gratification?
3. Am I standing in my own power or am I trying to please another?
4. Am I looking for what's right, or am I looking for what's wrong?
5. Will this choice add to my life force, or will it rob me of my energy?
6. Will I use this situation as a catalyst to grow and evolve or will I use it to beat myself up?
7. Does this choice empower me or dis-empower me?
8. Is this an act of self-love or self-sabotage?
9. Is this an act of faith or an act of fear?
10. Am I choosing from my Divinity or am I choosing from my humanity?

While these questions are all binary (Either/Or) in nature and clearly guide you to which is the preferable option, the answers will highlight the consequences of any choice and will allow you to make decisions with much greater clarity of mind.
Activate your subconscious to find the path from your Dreams 2 Reality.

This post follows on from the post entitled Dreaming and relates to the second step in My 7 Steps to Success.

What is the point of this Step?.... This will be make the difference as to whether your mind will activate your subconscious to start the process of turning your "Dreams 2 Reality" or not, without it your dreams could remain just that... dreams. It is about checking the dreams you discovered to make sure that they are yours, not your perception of what you think someone else wants you to dream. It's about checking if your dream will really be fulfilling your destiny and your highest values.

Discovering your Highest Values

Dr. John Demartini is "The Values Guy" and I find his story incredibly inspiring. From being down and out and on the verge of death, he became acquainted with the concept of fulfillment of one's highest values. Despite being told that he would never be able to read or amount to anything, he took the challenge and set out to overcome his . He became hungry for knowledge through reading. He has accumulated and continues to accumulate a wealth of knowledge which he uses as he fulfils one of his highest values, teaching, by spreading the knowledge he has gained. He has attained a high level of success and monetary wealth and can charge vast sums of money for his time as he spends most of it travelling around the world teaching and inspiring people.

My understanding of his philosophy regarding values is as follows:

We spend our time and energy on fulfilling our highest values. When we work towards any other values, such as what we admire in someone else or what we perceive as someone else's expectations of us, we will find ourselves struggling through life, uninspired and without energy. During these times we may find ourselves procrastinating, putting off what we think we should be doing, daydreaming, or doing other stuff that seems to get us nowhere. Often our highest values relate to the other stuff we find ourselves doing instead of the stuff we are "supposed" to be doing.

This reminds me of Paulo Coehlo's book, The Alchemist, in which the hero sets out on a quest for the philosopher's stone and the elixir of life. The philosopher's stone can turn any substance into gold and the elixir of life gives its drinker eternal youth. During the quest, the hero goes through periods of great success and some of grave despair. The times of great success and wealth are related to when he is engaged in his life's purpose, in his quest. When he gets distracted along the way, his success turns sour, life catches up and the success that he had found before, disappeared. It was only when he resumed his quest that things "started going his way" again.

Similarly you will find that, while remaining true to your highest values, and while continuing on your lifes "quest" things will tend to go your way, you will feel motivated and inspired. People will sense your inherent confidence because you believe in what you are doing and where you are going. They will respond to your self confidence with confidence in you and you will grow while you help others to grow around you.

How can you identify your highest values?

Start by answering the following questions and identifying areas that repeat themselves in your answers:

Where do you spend your energy and money?
What inspires you?
What do you spend most of your time doing?
What goals have you seen most success in achieving?
What do you love to read about or research?

The process is described in detail in Dr Demartini's book The Values Factor. For a more in depth approach, enroll in one of his courses such as his Breakthrough Experience.

Linking your Dream to your Highest Values

Once you have identified some of your highest values, go back to your dreams and ask: How does this dream fulfill these values? How will making this dream a reality bring me closer to my purpose or destiny? How will it fulfill me?

One way or another, a link must be found between your highest values and your dream. If you can't find a link, you may need to re-investigate your dreams or search a bit harder for the link.

When you identify the link between what you want and your life's purpose, your subconscious is engaged to find a way to fulfill that dream. You will find that you notice things that you didn't notice before, that opportunities seems to appear that might have always been there, but you didn't see them because you hadn't created the link between your mind and your infinite creativity and resourcefulness.

This is a time to start getting really excited. The challenge now is to create order among those thoughts and ideas. The next step in the process is Setting the Goal and I will blog on this step soon. In the Meantime check out Andrew Matthews' post on SMART Goal Setting on the Evoke Coaching Blog
Get started on your journey to turning your dreams into reality by following this first step in my 7 Steps to Success : Dreaming. What does dreaming entail? Where does one start? What are the guidelines? Should I be dreaming of that...?

Dreaming used to come naturally when we were children? Grown-ups would often ask the question: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" and answers would be uninhibited like Astronaut, Bus Driver, Fireman or Fighter Pilot. Some of us were lucky to be supported to chase those dreams and fulfill them. Others succumbed to society's pressure, became what they "should" have become and ended up in a job where they were working the best years of their lives towards someone else's dreams, waiting for the magic age when society says they must retire.

Here are some questions to ask yourself when taking time out to dream...

How do I want my LIFE to be? What do I want to HAVE? What do I want to DO? What do I want to BE?

When answering these questions, ensure that you are honest with yourself, that what you come up with is what YOU want, and not what someone else thinks you should want.

Here are some ideas to get you going:

1. Immortality + Eternal Youth

Do you really want to live forever? Physically this doesn't seem very realistic, unless there are any Highlanders or Vampires out there who would like to prove me wrong... (Be careful of wishing for Immortality without eternal youth....)

As for a legacy, there is often a strong desire in people to make a difference and be remembered. As long as people remember you, or you have had an influence on them, a part of you lives on in them. This is especially true for family. The desire for a family and procreation can be linked to the desire for immortality. While you might not live forever, a part of you lives on in your offspring and the people you have inspired throughout your life.

2. Wealth

Some people feel bad about wanting money. There is an idea out there that money corrupts and turns us into bad people. Bob Proctor states in his book, Its not about the money, that money can't change the essence of who you are. What it does is amplify your ability to live to your highest values. Its OK to want lots of money, but wealth can also refer to an abundance of other things. What do you want to do with the abundance you desire?

3. Travel

What places in the world would you love to see? What is it about the travel that you desire? Do you want to travel in luxury? Do you want to see ancient places and learn about where we came from? Do you simply have a strong desire to see beautiful things? Where in the world do you want to go? Fathom has put together a list of their top 24 Travel Blogs and Websites for 2014 which is a useful resource for some inspiration.

4. Happiness

What really makes you happy? This can be linked to almost any of the other desires. Think of a time where you felt the most happy. What were you doing? Who were you with? What was it about this time that made you really Happy?

5. Love

For some people, the thing they want most is love. Are you looking for the feeling of being in love, where the sky seems bluer, the trees seem greener and everything in the world is amazing, that feeling where your chest feels like it is going to explode? Or are you looking for long term companionship, someone to share your life with? Could it be the unconditional love that comes from Family?

If you are looking to for someone, think of how you want that person to be? Think of the values of that person, how they look and what they believe in.

6. Health

How do you want you health to be? Some would like to be fitter, some want to give up a habit like smoking. No matter how you are at the moment, imagine your ideal health situation. Think of what you will do in your ideal healthy state. Where will you go? What will you do? How will you feel? Allow your mind to run free without limitation and then reflect on how much better you feel already.

Need some inspiration, check out 60 Must-Read Health, Fitness and Happiness Blogs for 2014 for a reference to a lot of great health related blogs in one place.

7. Independence

This is a big one for me. Its one of the main reasons for engaging in this project. It probably ties into number 2 (Wealth), yet its slightly different because a high paying job can give you lots of money, but leaves you dependent on your employer. What will you do with your independence? Which of the other dreams will you be able to fulfill with independence?

8. Fame

What is it about fame that people seek? For me it's the capacity to reach huge numbers of people, inspire them and make a difference in their lives.

What does fame mean to you? How does it Look? Do people recognize you on the street or are you on a stage in front of a huge crowd, perhaps in a stadium that's packed to capacity.

For a more comprehensive list of ideas to spark your dreaming, check out 57 Things Other People Want From Life. I found that most of the items listed fitted into one or more of the categories listed above.

Look at the list and let your mind wander to your own personal ideal life. Check with yourself if this is really your dream? Picture it in vivid detail. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? What emotions are you experiencing? How does it feel to have life exactly the way you want it?

If you have followed this process, you are already on your way to making it reality. Parts of your subconscious are already working to figure out how to make it happen.

The key now is to move on to the next step in My 7 Steps to Success, Adding Value, to ensure that you engage those parts of your subconscious. Without taking positive steps to discover the importance of this dream to YOU in fulfilling your purpose in life, and without designing a plan, you could get stuck in the dream.

Following the steps will ensure that your subconscious shows you the way to turning this Dream into Reality.

Feeling inspired?
Progress made last week was the addition of a Privacy Policy. This is a requirement for a lot of the affiliate programmes and was a relatively easy step. There are quite a few online resources available for generating privacy policies. I used Serprank as it's user friendly interface allows you to customise your privacy policy for the different affiliate programmes you intend to use.

On the practical side I have found some excellent resources to increase traffic to your blog and improve the blog overall.

It seems as if the search engines have become wise to the sites out there that simply try to drive up hits and the processes they use to rate site seems to be much more related to quality and value.

I sincerely hope that what I have posted so far has been of value and I am increasing my efforts to bring you even more value as I learn more.

I have found that one of the best ways to figure out what work is to use Google to search for a topic and then read some of the top sites that come out of the search. These guys must be doing something right to appear in the top few Google hits. One of the most common aspects I have found is that the information is useful and I find myself reading further into the articles than I would normally.

Here are some of the blogs I have found particularly useful:

1. Smartpassiveincome.com is one of the most useful sites I have come across for how to generate a web based income. Pat Flynn shares a lot of information on how to start web businesses, podcasting and specifically where his income is coming from. I really like his philosophy of sharing everything that he has learned and implemented in his achievements which adds genuine value to his readership.

2. www.backlinko.com demonstrates the power of creating and maintaining backlinks to increase traffic to your site as well as increase social media sharing. As a testimony to the process, I found his site through a link from TheSmart Passive Income Blog. There are also a few very useful step by step "how to's" for getting great results from your blog. I am busy implementing some of the concepts he has discussed, so I'll let you know how they work.

3. 9 Killer Ways to Make Your Blog Popular has some great advice and easy to implement ways that you can improve your blog's popularity.

One of the common aspects that I have picked up on these sites is that the authors seem to have a genuine interest in providing value to their readers. Its not just about getting people to their sites, its about having people want to stay on their sites, read whats there, and return for more.

My next major post is about spending some time dreaming of how you want your life to be. Its the first step in My 7 Steps to Success and I'm really excited about the difference it will make in people's lives. It is also the first in a series of posts, adding meat to the 7 steps I have outlined.

I can't wait to hear your feedback
At last! Now for new challenges!Thank you to all who viewed this blog yesterday, I received 113 views. I sincerely hope it has made a positive difference in your lives.

What I am most encouraged about, is that I didn't do anything significantly different. I made a few more posts, added a share button, and tweeted a few links to some useful sites. I think the key is activity. I have a new parameter to monitor... Shares. It seems like this is the key to get things moving, so please click/tap on the share button at the bottom of this post.

I am working on some mind blowing progress with viral results, so tweet this and follow me to see what it's all about.

Next short term targets.

1. 100 shares in a day.
2. 1000 views in a day.

Your assistance will be appreciated.

This is the Seventh step in My 7 Steps to Success and its critical in your process.

Ask yourself the following questions every evening:

Where am I on the path to my goal?
What did I do well today?
Where have I succeeded?
What would I do differently if I could do it over?
What is my plan for tomorrow?

The ideal would be to write down your answers in a journal for future reference. You can also also use your journal to track the how well you are sticking to your plan and refer back to lessons that you might want to review. It is also a useful reference to appreciate the small changes that happen over time. You might feel like your progress is slow and that not much is happening on a daily basis, yet the small changes add up and a journal helps build confidence by highlighting that cumulative effect.

Asking these questions is part of the process of Kaizen (Continuous Improvement). It will ensure that you are consciously engaging your CREATIVITY and RESOURCEFULNESS to improve the way you operate and get better results from less effort.

Some have code for banners like the one below that you can simply cut and paste into the HTML of your page.

I will endeavour to only include relevant ads in this blog, and I believe that this one is relevant.

Google Adsense has a cool function that analyses the content of your website and matches adverts to that content. The idea is that readers will be more likely to follow the links if they are relevant to the content that they searched for and found on your site.

The Free Kindle Reading App enables you to access kindle ebooks from any mobile device such as your smartphone or tablet. There are many free titles so you can install the app and get reading immediately. I also believe that regularly reading about how to achieve success is essential to help change your mindset which is, in turn, essential to the success you seek.

I remember a demonstration at a conference where two large suitcases were placed on one side of the stage. A member of the audience was asked to move from one side of the stage to the other. They tried to pick up the suitcases and move, but they were too heavy and progress was slow. The presenter then suggested that the participant let go of the suitcases. The move to the other side was then completed with ease. The lesson was that all that was required to get to where the person wanted to be, was to let go of what was holding them back.

Often the thing that is holding people back from what they want to achieve, is a fear. Whether it be fear of failure, fear of what other people might think, or even a fear of change, the fear is often irrational. I have heard the statement quite a lot lately that the only thing more terrifying than things staying the way they are, is change. Napoleon Hill recognised this as a major factor in what determines people's success or failure in his book Think and Grow Rich.

What can you do about this phenomenon that apparently can make the difference between success and failure? There are many theories that can lead to endless analysis paralysis.

The solution that makes the most sense to me is to commit to taking the first four steps of My 7 Steps to Success. The first three are a bit easier than the fourth. If you feel the fear creeping up on you when it gets to creating your affirmation and reading it aloud, fake confidence. Your subconscious mind doesn't distinguish between the fake or real confidence, and every time you read it you will feel more and more real confidence.

Your subconscious mind will then start tapping your as yet undiscovered creativity and resourcefulness to make the plans and find the solutions you are looking for. You will immediately feel encouraged to take action.

As you are working towards your goal, whenever fear raises it's ugly head, you have your affirmation to remind you of the path you are on. Use it to help you let go of the suitcases that are holding you back and race ahead to your Destiny!
How to get a 95% success rate.<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">In Bob Proctor’s book It’s Not About The Money, he quotes from a 1993 study conducted at Brigham Young University. The study compared statements made about a particular change people want in their lives to the likelihood of them incorporating the change.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The results showed that those that made the statement “That’s a good idea.” had a 10% chance of making a change. Those that committed and said, “I’ll do it.” had a 25% chance of making a change. People who set a deadline by say when they would make the change, saw an increase in probability of change to 40%, while coming up with a specific plan increased the chances to 50%. Committing to someone else that they would do it saw an increase to a 60% chance of change. The biggest jump and most significant factor in ensuring that a change was incorporated into people's lives was to set a specific time to share progress on the change with someone else.

The benefits of setting up accountability can clearly be seen from the above study. There are many ways we can do this, from telling someone close to us, telling our friends or colleagues, publishing it on a blog, or hiring a coach or mentor.

Coaches are specifically trained to contract with clients to hold them accountable for changes they intend to bring about according to the clients terms. The role of the coach goes even further in their process of exploring their client's inherent creativity and resourcefulness in order come up with their own plans and strategies to implement the desired changes.

While coaching is ideally suited to face to face communications, more and more coaching is taking place online through facilities such as Skype or even simply over the phone.
I have clearly shown that the amount of effort put in at this stage is proportional to the results. If I want results, I have to take the action required.

I set a target just over a week ago to get 100 views in a day. on that day I got 81 hits, not quite the target, but highest hit rate without a targeted Facebook post.

Lets get those 100 hits today. Help me by sharing, tweeting, commenting and generally getting the word out there.

Lets get inspired!
I would say that one of the most used resources on the Internet is Google, and I'm hoping that some of you are reading this as a result of the service they provide. Google is indeed a great resource for finding out what you want to know, as long as you apply your own data analysis and filtering to the results.

The challenge then is how to get Google, and thousands of web surfers, to find you. I decided to try to find out, and used Google to help me out. Through this I came to another useful resource, wiki how. The specific site is www.wikihow.com/Increase-Website-Traffic.

My next mission is to follow all of the steps they recommend. I can already attest to the success of some of the advice. I will keep you informed as to what works. I can imagine that all of the advice used in isolation will give good results, while using all of it in conjunction should give amazing results.

One piece of advice given is to find out what your readers want. Please comment with what would be useful or just complete the survey at bottom of the side panel.

What is yours? My dream goes well beyond the 2 Million in 2 Months challenge and relates to the future of this country. South Africa has incredible potential... I have used the word "potential" often in these posts, and yet it is one of my least favorite words. I feel that the word potential is limiting in that it presents a view of what could be achieved as opposed to what is being achieved... let me reframe the above statement: South Africa is an amazing country with a diverse and dynamic population that has incredible amounts of resourcefulness and creativity. The future is bright for all South Africans. My dream is for a South Africa where every individual has the opportunity to contribute his/her unique talents and abilities to building a brighter future in this country, to uplifting all fellow South Africans and reaping the benefits of this beautiful and rich land. I dream of a nation of people that value their integrity and businesses that thrive from adding value to their customers and society. I have a dream...

Every time I listen to the news on the radio and I start to feel a bit depressed about all of the bad news that gets reported, I become more determined that I will make a difference. Every person that is born on this earth has an opportunity to make a difference. It all starts with a desire, followed by a decision and persistent effort towards turning the desire into reality. Great people in the past were labeled as visionaries because they created a picture in their minds of how they wanted things to be and allowed their minds come to up with plans to make that vision a reality.

Nelson Mandela kept believing in a dream through years of oppression and 27 years of imprisonment. It was only quite late in his life that that dream started becoming a reality, and it is still in progress.

We need to create a clear picture in our minds of how we want the future to look in South Africa, and then work on a group consciousness to bring about practical ways for that vision to be a reality.

How does the ideal future look in this country. Comment below?
These changes have translated into changes in my affirmation. I believe these changes will be necessary for me to attain my goal, and yet they relate to a shift in focus away from the money. Here it is:

1. The exact amount of money I desire is 2 Million Rand in 2 months
2. In return I find ways of adding value to my readers lives by sharing my processes, thoughts and lessons learned in achieving a clearly defined goal through setting up an online shopping and advertising website.
3. I am accumulating at least R 2,000,000.00 by 30 November 2014.
4. The plan I am implementing to achieve this is to establish a website and blog and actively work to increase traffic to the website by providing content of value to my readers while optimising all forms of income from the site.
5. I am excited about having R 2 Million or more and the piece of mind it brings in terms of being the beginning of an ongoing passive income source. I am passionate about inspiring people to reach well beyond their perceived potential. I am deeply grateful that I can do this.

If you compare it to the previous one you will notice that while the end goal has remained the same, the focus has shifted to inspiration. One of my highest values is making a difference in people's lives, so help me get to the thousands of people I would love to be inspiring.
